The 12 days wildlife safari and primate tracking in Rwanda is an amazing journey that will take you to some of the most beautiful and wildlife-rich areas of the country. You will visit Akagera National Park, where you can go on a safari and see animals like lions, elephants, and zebras. You will also visit Nyungwe National Park, where you can track chimpanzees and see the beautiful canopy walk. This is a truly unforgettable experience for any nature lover.

Itinerary

Arrive at Kigali International Airport; you will be welcomed by our professional guide, move to the hotel where you stay for the evening and the night. 

Following a tasty breakfast, a skilled driver-guide will arrive at your hotel at 8:00am to embark on a city tour. Being the capital of Rwanda, Kigali has a rich history that will be shared with you, from before, during, and after colonization, and you will also visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial. After having lunch and taking a break, you will visit the Campaign Against Genocide Museum and the Richard Kant Museum. After a full day of touring, you will return to your Kigali hotel to relax and spend the night. 

After checking out of your hotel early in the morning, you will be picked up by a professional driver guide. The journey from Kigali to Akagera National Park will take approximately 3 hours, during which you can enjoy beautiful scenic views. Upon arrival, you will check in to your hotel and then embark on a full day game drive with a packed lunch. You can use your camera to capture photos of various animals such as elephants, leopards, rhinos, lions, waterbucks, giraffes, hippos, buffaloes, monkeys, birds, and scenic views. After the game drive, you will head back to the park reception for registration before enjoying a full day game drive. At 4:00 pm, you will return to the hotel to freshen up and relax before preparing for the night game drive at 6:00 pm. After the night game drive, you will return to the hotel for dinner and a comfortable overnight stay.

Following a pleasant breakfast at your hotel, take a brief excursion to observe some untamed creatures on a game drive, followed by a sunrise boat trip to discover the wetland environment and its aquatic fauna such as crocodiles, hippos, and water birds. Return to the hotel at 11:00 am for lunch and to check out. Depart from Akagera NP to Volcano NP, travel to Musanze, and settle in at the hotel for the night. Enjoy dinner and unwind to prepare for the next day.

After enjoying a tasty breakfast in the morning, the driver will collect you from your hotel and take you to the park headquarters. Once there, a park guide will brief you about the park and provide information about the rules and regulations for gorilla trekking. Then, you will set off on your trek which can last between 2 to 7 hours. To avoid disturbing the gorillas, only 8 visitors are allowed per gorilla family, and paying for an exclusive experience is an option. Spending an hour with the gorillas is a good amount of time to interact with them, take photos, and learn about them. Each group is only allowed to visit once per day. After the trek, you will return to the reception area and have lunch at Fatim hotel. In the afternoon, you will visit the Ellen DeGeneres Camps and then spend the evening relaxing at a hotel where you will stay overnight.

After a satisfying breakfast, you will head out at 7:00 am to the park reception to track golden monkeys. Upon arrival, the park guide will provide you with a briefing on the park and the rules and regulations for tracking the golden monkeys. During the trip, you will have the opportunity to encounter other wild animals and birds. The duration of the trip can range from 2 to 6 hours, and visitors are limited to spending only one hour with the monkeys, during which they can enjoy their company, take photos, and share information about them. After lunch and some relaxation time at the hotel, you will embark on a 2km walk through the Musanze Cave. The cave offers a unique experience of complete darkness in the middle of the walk, and visitors can spot bats living within the cave. With the guidance of the park guide, you can learn about the history of the cave, including the traditional mortar that indicates human habitation in the area. You will then spend the night relaxing at your lodge, preparing for the tour of the following day.

After having breakfast and checking out of the hotel in the morning, you will head towards Lake Kivu. Upon arrival, you will have the option to either hike to Napoleon and Amahoro Island or relax on the beach and visit a hot spring. Once you have checked into the hotel, you can enjoy a tasty lunch and take some time to relax. You can then choose to participate in any activities you prefer. In the evening, you will return to the hotel for dinner and spend the night there.

After enjoying breakfast and checking out of your hotel in the morning, you will make your way to Nyungwe National Park. You will arrive in Nyungwe around lunchtime and check into your hotel. After lunch and some relaxation time, you will embark on a canopy walk. The park guide will provide you with information about the canopy walk, which offers an opportunity to experience the refreshing breeze of the natural forest of Nyungwe while enjoying the scenic views of the forest. You can also listen to the beautiful songs of birds and the calls of animals in the forest. The canopy walk usually takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes, during which you may encounter monkeys and various species of birds. You will then spend the night relaxing at your lodge, preparing for the tour of the following day.

At 5:00 in the morning, following breakfast, you will rendezvous with a park guide who will provide you with a briefing on the rules and regulations for chimpanzee trekking, as well as an overview of the park. From there, you will travel to the starting point and embark on a 4-7 hour trek through the forest where you may encounter other primates, birds, and stunning views of the forest. Afterwards, you will return to the hotel for lunch and leisure time. In the afternoon, you will visit Gisakura tea plantation where you will have the opportunity to learn about tea picking and try it for yourself. After the field experience, you will tour the tea processing factory and taste the tea. You will spend the night at the hotel and relax in preparation for the next day's tour.

After enjoying a delicious breakfast, you will head to the park reception at 7:00 for a hike to the waterfall. Once you arrive, the park guide will provide you with information about the park and its rules and regulations, after which you will begin the hike. Along the way, you will have the opportunity to take in the beautiful scenery, observe monkeys and birds, and enjoy the surroundings. In the afternoon, you will return to the park reception for a tracking adventure of black and white colobus monkeys. A park guide will brief you on the rules and regulations for this trekking experience before driving you to the starting point. The trek itself will take approximately 2 hours, during which you will have the chance to encounter other monkeys, birds, and breathtaking views of the forest. Following the trek, you will return to your hotel to relax for the night.

After enjoying breakfast and checking out of the hotel this morning, you will begin your journey towards Kigali. Along the way, you will stop at the Ethnographic Museum in Butare where you can gain insight into the historical background of Rwanda. Following this, you will proceed to the Kings Palace Museum. Once you arrive in Kigali in the evening, you will check into your hotel and spend the night there, relaxing and resting.  

This morning after a delicious breakfast, driving to Kigali International Airport for departure from Kigali.
