It is the largest and the deepest lake in Rwanda and the sixth largest in Africa, it lies on board in the Western part of Rwanda with the Democratic Republic of Congo. Rubavu is a large town on the edge of Lake Kivu considered as the perfect place to relax on the beach.   

This lake has multiple islands that make it attractive, like Star Island where a vervet monkey comes in your boot to greet you and fetch food. Napoleon’s hat Island, this Island named Napoleon due to its shape looks like a Napoleon hat. The hiking on Napoleon’s hat Island up to the top, really amazing hike, on the way spotting the bats, birds, scenic view of the lake and its islands.

Activities that are done at lake kivu are includes but not limited to boat riding, kayaking, swimming, beach volleyball, canoeing, swimming caws experience, birding, hiking like Congo Nile trail with 227 km, biking, Experiencing traditional day fishing or night fishing, Nyamyumba hot springs, coffee experience at Kinunu and Cyimbiri,  etc.
